Employment Type: Part-time
Terms & Conditions: Fixed term contract initially to 31st March 2024 with possibility of further extension depending on continuation of funding.
Hours: 21hrs per week
Salary: £27,000 PA (£16,200 pro-rata) + 4% pension
Location: Glasgow & Aberdeen with travel across Scotland
CEMVO Scotland is a national intermediary organisation and strategic partner of the Scottish Government with the aim of building the capacity of the ethnic minority third sector and its communities. We have a network of over 600 EM voluntary sector organisations throughout Scotland. We currently work on a hybrid basis between home and office working.
We are seeking 1 full-time race equality engagement officer to cover Edinburgh & Glasgow regions and 1 part-time (21 hrs) race equality engagement officer to cover the Aberdeen region.
Both roles will involve providing race equality capacity building support to regional climate action hubs, regional climate hub co-ordinators and to local environmental groups, including the delivery of race equality training. The roles will also involve undertaking outreach work to provide capacity building support to local ethnic groups / communities and to help facilitate ethnic minority participation in regional climate action hub developmental activities.
You will require good knowledge, understanding and experience in race / equality issues, particularly around supporting organisations to develop actions that address racial inequalities. You will also have the ability to deliver race equality training to a wide audience, and experience in engaging with local ethnic groups / communities to help build their capacity.
Person Specification
ESSENTIAL
• Good knowledge and understanding of race equality issues.
• Experience in providing support to organisations in developing actions that address racial inequalities within organisations and with diverse communities.
• Excellent skills and experience in delivering race equality training tailored to the needs of organisations and individuals, and evaluating training outcomes
• Good knowledge and understanding of the race / equalities policy landscape.
• Experience in engaging with EM groups / communities
• Commitment to the development of the ethnic minority voluntary sector, as well as good understanding of the issues affecting the sector
• Ability to meet targets and deadlines to achieve project outcomes
• Good organisational skills, including organising events and planning own work load
• Good communication, inter-personal and networking skills
• Good presentational and public speaking skills
DESIRABLE
• A commitment or good understanding of environmental issues and of the environmental policy landscape will be highly useful for this post as the programme will be highly focused on developing local environmental groups, and facilitating engagement with EM groups / communities on environmental issues.
